Mr. Nichols joined AES in 2021. Serving as Survey Manager for the Chesapeake office, he provides exceptional client service by leaning on extensive experience managing surveying projects in the entirety of Virginia but especially in Central and Western Virginia. He manages a team including field staff, office survey staff, and research professionals. His team provides a wide array of surveying services including ALTA surveys, boundary surveys, topographic surveys, builder packages, subdivision plats, easement plats, as-builts, and construction stakeout.
Mr. Nichols began his surveying career in 1983 as a Field Artillery Surveyor in the United States Army 101 Airborne Division where he was awarded the Good Conduct and Army Achievement Medals. After leaving the Army in 1986, he moved to Tennessee to earn his degree at Eastern Tennessee State University. After graduating, he moved to Lynchburg and later to the Charlottesville area of Virginia and worked his way from entry-level surveying positions into senior project manager roles throughout his career.
Mr. Nichols specializes in residential and commercial development, VDOT road and bridge projects, and municipal projects. He has done extensive work for VDOT and is familiar with VDOT policies and methods for route surveys for new construction and improvement projects. He has been called as an expert witness in several court cases throughout the years because of his education and experience in the surveying field.
