Ryan Stephenson interned with AES for two summers and decided he didn’t want to look anywhere else for work. Ryan joined the team fulltime March 2004 and has since worked his way up to Senior Project Manager. With a degree in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech, Ryan is one of the many Hokies around the office. One of Ryan’s favorite things about AES is “the satisfaction of taking a project from concept to completion. Also, helping the community I live in develop more homes for people to live in and create jobs by bringing more businesses to the area.”

We asked Ryan to share a little bit more about himself. See his answers below!

Favorite Food: “I like everything…but some of my favorites are any seafood dish, pad thai, BBQ chicken, curry, sushi or a good cheeseburger”

Favorite Activities outside of work: “Movies (horror), music (metal/hard rock), sports, fantasy football, video games, collecting comics, spending time with my wife and 3 kids”

Favorite vacation spot: “Outer Banks…been doing that trip since I can remember.  Lately though, Disney has been pretty awesome with the kids.”

Favorite Quote: “Don’t take life too seriously, none of us make it out alive.”

Another occupation you would like to try: “I always wanted to be the guy that provided the stats for football games that showed up during the game on TV.”

Which actor would you want to play you in the movie about your life: “Hugh Jackman…aka Wolverine!” (See Ryan’s favorite shirt below)

AES Culture

Ryan credits the people and the atmosphere as some of the reasons why he loves AES. He has been able to make many close friends through his peers and spends time with them outside of office hours as well. You can find them at trivia nights, creating fantasy football leagues, sharing beers and grabbing a movie showing together. Ryan says he “couldn’t imagine working anywhere else.”

Considering joining the AES team? Ryan’s recommends it! “AES is a great engineering firm that provides an excellent work/life balance. You will be surrounded by highly motivated and knowledgeable employees to help get projects designed and approved. In addition, you will be part of a work family that looks out for each other and understands the need for time to handle issues outside of the office, as well as providing a fun and friendly atmosphere to come to work each day.”
